Buying a computer can be a tedious task, look here and there, getting tips and advise etc. However if you don't comprehend all the techie language, you may be in to not getting the most value for your hard earn dollars. Below I provide some tips on what to look for when buying a new computer.
Determine exactly what you want to do with this computer. Is it just to do a little Office work, typing, browsing the internet. Will you be doing serious or just some gaming. What types of software do you plan to run on it. Plan Ahead. Include all needs and wants, so that you can pick out just the right one.
Look for a popular model, Well this one is easy right. Most people I know would not buy something if they have never heard about it. Look for the popular brands like Dell, Compaq/HP, IBM/Lenovo etc. Personally I would go for an IBM/Lenovo. Apple MACs are also a very big thing these days and has gained a lot of popularity these days
Look at the Processor Specifications. This is a very important factor. In today's rising technology demands the need for a high speed processor is the call of the day. If you will be doing just like office work then you don't need to be too extreme in this. Something like a Single/Dual Core Processor will simly do the job. Anything that is about 2000+MHz and above will do just fine. However, for the seious minded, those who want to do real gaming, extensive programming, or run live business application, Dual - Quad Core processors are exactly what you are looking for. Intel Core Duo or AMD X2 are some popular names that you might want to look for,
Memory is another very important factor. Memory determines the rate at which your computer handles your request, usually a contributing factor towards the speed of your computer. The standard memory today is about 1GB+ however i have seen computer that range all the way up to 16+ GB.
Hard Drive - is the area where you store all those files on your computer. If you are planning to browse and do some files and reports then you don't have to get a too large hard drive, however if you want to store you collection of James Bond movies you might want to pick out something that is about 250GB+ or more.
Peripherals - the other gadgets and cool things that comes with it, A trciked out case, a cool color prnter, a light scribe dvd burner maybe. Anything else that might make it cool or look good.
Buying a PC is a lot of money to invest sometimes, ensure that you look well to choose great.
Have the sales person explain in detail what you are getting. If you don't understand ask questions.
Don't fall for "I beleive him/her because they sound like they know what they are saying" . See for yourself, ask questions or take along someone who knows.
