It is our home grown secret that everybody seems to have forgotten. If you have seen the pictures of the old body builders you will know what I am talking about. Today, the focus is much on building the upper body and the lower body, which means almost all of today's body builders, have a pot belly.
 
I know most of us think we have no time to work out, and to a certain extent it is true. So, here is a revision of our, saints secret for a perfect stomach / abs....Stomach Vacuum.
 
Stomach Vacuum is a simple exercise to follow and it can be done in small frequent breaks of 10 secs for five minutes everyday and leads to amazing flattening results within a month.It has been adapted by different cultures as one of the most powerful exercises, even modern Pilates (which I call abstract yoga) that all hollywood actors use includes it. It is very popular amongst 'belly dancers' so good, they call it the magic potion, after all their bellies do wonders to them earning hand in hand right?
 

Steps

Who can do this?
 
Any body between the age 5 - 65 or later can, there is no restriction.

Where do we do it?
 
You may do this on the floor, or sitting in your chair, or lying on the bed, or while waiting at the hotel for your lunch to arrive, or watching T.V or while waiting for someone to turn up, the traffic light to turn green, before food , after food .. literally any situation you can think you are in (except when you are in a sick bed).

Big Question How do we do it?
 

  1. Sit/Stand/Ly straight.
  2. Correct your breathing, your tummy (stomach) should blow up like a balloon when you inhale and sink in when you exhale.
  3. Now after 5 normal breathing, take a long deep breathe (inhale)
  4. Exhale slowly until you start feeling your belly button almost touching your back.
  5. This is the 'vacuum position' hold on to it to as long as you can.
  6. Meanwhile you can return to your normal breathing externally without letting your tummy rise up.
  7. Finally, synch your breathing to your tummy again and take a deep breathe.

A minimum 10 secs is recommendable and do it as many times as you wish through out the day. Since there is deep breathing involved, it is a fantastic stress reliever as well, good way to relax instantly.

How effective is this 10 sec exercise?

  1. By tightening the abs and shrinking the waistline at the same time, this exercise engages the transverse abdominal muscle,which no other exercise easily targets.
  2. This simple exercise will increase our cardiovascular system.
  3. Improve your chances against low back pain, as it strengthens the spine and pelvic areas.
  4. Exerts many other advantages, to the leg section by reducing the possibilities of internal injuries.

But the problem is I am not able to suck my stomach in. I try pulling it by holding breath and choke and cough . Is there an easier way to do this ?

First I would like to thank you for sharing this great tip. I tried it while i was reading. wow! how simple. I am very comfortable to do this.

But i have one question. Almost all the methods I tried before a very hard and requires a lot of effort and causes little discomfort and pain. I also beleive good things are always hard to acheive.

Will this method really work?
If yes I will be really glad. Beacause its really awesome because of its simplicity.

I noticed two comments questioning the efficiency of this simple routine, so here is what i believe you should know.

This technique is effective with no side harms.If you are doing regular abs exercise plus this one it is miraculous. This is my personal experience.

How ever, I won't claim you will loose 20 kilos sitting at your desk doing nothing but this because it is IMPOSSIBLE. You have to sweat in order to cut that fat. I have posted a few detailed articles on weight loss feel free to visit them and get motivated.

A very good advise

I have alwso learnt this from a yogi how to do breathing exercise. This above advise is one among them. It really works if we try it everyday with out fail. Yoga exercises may give results slowly...but they are 100% perfect and we achieve what we need.
