If you have to make Pulihora (or chitrannam as it is called by some) you need time to cook the rice. With oats you can make instant Pulihora. Moreover, oats are better for health than rice which contain more carbs.
FOR TEMPERING
add more salt, green chilies and red chilies only if you like it spicy.
Heat a pan and dry roast oats for one minute. Keep aside.
heat oil in the same pan, add the tempering ingredients, red and green chilies ( if required) pour ¼ cup water( keep the other ¼ aside), turmeric and salt (use a little less as the MTR powder will have some) bring to a boil and then add the MTR powder.
add the roasted oats. Add the rest of the water if required. Cover and cook for one minute. See that no lumps are there and sprinkle coriander leaves and serve hot.
Do not soak oats. The pulihodarai gets lumpy.
