One of my readers following, Why Excercising is so important, has asked me a good question, something that we all wonder at certain period of our age. To show my appreciation to this reader's involvement, I write this exclusive article, with what I discover to be a possible explaination.
 
So the question is, How does my reader's friend manage to remain very lean in spite of eating junk, why doesn't he put on any weight? Can my reader one day become like this friend?
 
In this article,  I will use  two uncommon words 'metabolism' and 'BMR' to explain the reason. If you don't understand it, don't worry neither had I when I studied first. As long as you get a hang on the subject discussed you will be fine.

Human body falls widely into two categories. One, that has a natural 'fast metabolism' (like an aeroplane) and other one with a 'slow metabolism'(like a steam engine). First of all, Metabolism is the rate at which our body's internal engine operates as it performs its bodily functions.
The largest part of this 'metabolism' process is the 'BMR' Basal metabolic rate, which is how many calories we burn just sitting around through the process of breathing,  heartbeat, blood circulation, body temperature maintenance and any other form of  involuntary activity.
 
Those of us who possess 'fast metabolism' have a higher 'BMR' and will burn calories lying on the couch and majority of us who have 'slower metabolism' will put on weight during fasting, that's it , this is the truth. I find it easier to discuss with examples and cases so, let me be a subject of study here ..

A couple of years ago, I was a size 6, then I went on to have a child and became size 14 now when he is 3, I am size 8. So, I can safely say, I originally belonged to the 'fast metabolism' group and now since, I have aged my metabolism is slowing down slightly, it is natural.
 
When we are born, all of us have this nature's gift of 'fast metabolism'. Why do you think the kids are so hyperactive, they are powered with high energy boosters from within all the time, even while they are asleep. It doesn't really matter what they eat, although special care sufficient nutrients must be taken.
 
My son has more energy levels compared to me in fact, we vary in the proportion 1:3.  One of my main purposes, of exercising every day is to be fit enough to last through the weekend playtime ( i know you are giggling) . Imagine my condition; if I were to spend time all my week days trying to match him, I would be breathless. Thank god, I have a full time job and he has a huge group of equally energetic friends at his Kindy.
 
Observing my son, is like my case study, I try something new everyday, simply to make sure he finishes his plate/study/mil or anything else. So, one such evening we decided to enact as mamma spiderman and baby spiderman. Now that he can talk a little. He said to me 'Mamma spida man, follo me..' and ran up our coach hopped 2 or three times, climbed the dining table chairand posed with spidy wrist and shooted ' choo choo...' I at once knew what he was upto. that choo choo was the web he threw and now he was ready to jump to kick the villan's bum, off he went  ( don't worry it was a tiny height and our house is well carpeted so, he landed safely)  with quick air smashing dichum .. dichum he said 'I got tha powa...' ( I've got the power). Now, he looked at me and said ' itz ur turn mamma spida man. I repeated the same things he did and soon it was choo choo time, I looked at him and he was watching with a big grin on his face waiting for me to land, I was determined not to let him down, so off I went ' Schoo ' Schoo... and jumped.. only, to land on him ( he had moved in front of me, while I was in my action).  Can you guess, who was hurt, yes me, his head simply needed a healing kiss and he was rushinginto his next act. I sat there with a twisted ankle, my semiconscious had forced me into an angle to protect the full impact of my weight on him. This unintended movement left me hurt for a couple of hours atleast.

Coming back to the subject now, I hope you understand what I am trying to explain. Everything slows down as you age. My body which was once an Aeroplane that rushed through the day with high speed is now slowing down to be a steam engine.
 
Can I gain my 'fast metabolism' again?
 
Why yes, certainly. I already have a better metabolism and will keep building it now on.
 
I have come to realise that, I can not ignore my body anymore saying 'oh! I am too busy for the whole day, I will eat 1 or 2 big meals'. My body does no longer like it , it will simply use what is required for it function at that particular time and refrigerate the rest of the energy as fat, chokes me and puts me to sleep, if I ever fiddle with it. So, I am very strict with my habits I practise what I propose and so Water has remained my best 'friend' for a couple of years now, read this article to know why?, if you are new to my forum or you want to revisit the thought.
 
I have to fuel my body at regular intervals of time, ideally in 5 - 6 breaks, back my decision with decent suitable menus.
 
Iam still to keep up my promise about writing an article on what to eat during this 5 breaks that i mentioned in my first article ' How to loose weight naturally?' and trust me I will .
I just think it is more wise to keep you alongside by answering your queries as we cruise through the most complicated subject 'Health' in the simplest possible manner.
