In recent times tension has become common for children. More so in teenagers. They are either worried about living up to the expectation of their elders in various fields, about incurring the wrath or suspicion of their parents. Some times they are so hurt by the harsh words of their parents regarding their failure that they are resorting to suicide.

They can be made to understand that elders mean well when they admonish, as long as parents are not over ambitious.

Steps

1

Parents can try to develop good  rapport ,  by giving weight to the feelings of their children, caring for their likes and dislikes

explain as to why they are being strict with regards to education or discipline without using harsh, hurting words.  Encourage to do better in any field than before.

allot more time to your children to understand them, observe for any changes in their behavior and   have time and patience to listen to their problems

4

approach the children  through their friends and relatives if you find that you are not able to communicate with them.

explain in a gentle manner, the family’s financial condition, and their need to feel responsible

Tips

  • try to understand what the children are interested in doing. What ever be the topic, try to explain to them convincingly and gently.
  • Always be ready  to offer advice, support  or console them when needed
  • Understand that each child is different and comparison creates prejudice against others.

Caution

  • Do not try to impose your life’s ambitions on your children with out caring for their likes and dislikes.
  • Do not use harsh, hurting words if their fail to live up to your expectations
  • Do not compare your children with their siblings or friends, which lowers their self esteem.
  • Do not complain by saying that you are spending your life’s savings to educate them and that they are not performing well.
