French Fries is the ultimate snack you can possibly enjoy on a nice cool evening, in front of the tv or just anytime you please! And for people like me who are obsessed with anything made of potatoes, French fries is an obvious choice :-)

Though it may seem rather mundane, preparing the 'perfect' French fries having the same taste and crispiness as in a restaurant does involve some effort and technique. Right from my school days I tried making French fries in different ways but none were satisfactory, Until I saw a cookery show from where I learnt this recipe of this lip-smacking snack.

Things You'll Need

  1. 3-4 Potatoes ( Medium / Large sized )
  2. Oil ( for frying )
  3. Salt 3-4 tsp
  4. Red Chilli Powder 1-2 tsp
  5. Water

Steps

1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into fingers (straw like pieces) of about 1/2" width.

2

Put them in boiling water and blanch them for 5-10 minutes until they get a little soft.
Be careful not to over-boil the potatoes

3

Drain the water and dry the potatoes. You may leave them on a kitchen sieve for some time so that the excessive water drains off.

4

Heat frying oil in a pan on medium flame and slowly add the dried potatoes. Deep fry them until they turn golden yellow.

5

Remove the french fries and remove excess oil using napkins or paper towels. Finally sprinkle salt, Red chilli powder and toss the fries so that they are evenly distributed. Serve hot with ketchup.

Tips

  • It is often better to choose slightly large potatoes.
  • You can also add chaat masala in the end for getting a tangy taste

Caution

Be careful to completely drain water from blanched potatoes before adding them to oil for frying.
