How to plan your diet during winter

Metabolism of the body is sluggish during winter. You  need more nourishing food to maintain the warmth in the body.

Steps

Eat maize, wheat and rice. curd and mung dal to be used. all milk products can be taken

Vegetables recommended for winter season

  • bottle gourd
  • ladies fingers (okra)
  • ribbed gourd
  • fenugreek(methi) leaves
  • pumpkin
  • spinach
  • cabbage
  • cauliflower
  • amaranthus

For Non- vegetarians, the following items are recommended

  • chicken
  • mutton
  • fish
  • prawn

It is also healthy to consumen any of the following root vegetables

  • elephant yam
  • yam
  • carrot
  • ginger
  • beetroot
  • onion
  • sweet potato

Fruits suitable for winter include

  • grapes
  • apple
  • oranges
  • chiku
  • pineapple
  • banana

The following are the recommended Nuts for winter season

  • almonds
  • pistachio
  • cashews
  • walnuts.

Other than that the following items can be included in your food.

  • cloves
  • sesame
  • jaggery
  • sugar
  • sago

Tips

  • massage with oil (preferably sesame) to the whole body and steam bath or normal bath with warm water is good.
  • Rigorous exercise is recommended.
  • Warm clothing like woolen and silk clothing is preferable
  • Drink plenty of water,fruit juices, buttermilk as body needs to be hydrated even during witner.
  • Take warm soups which are welcoming during winter

Caution

  • There are certain foods  that are to be avoided like red millete (ragi), barley and old rice.
  • Avoid drum sticks, bitter gourd, brinjal, legumes (beans, cluster beans, rajmah)
  • Tuar dal,peas masoor dal and chana dal are not recommended.
  • Non-vegetarians keep away from dried or fried mutton or fish.
  • White radish (muli) garlic, knolkol, turnips can be kept away.
  • Jack fruit should not be eaten during winter.
  • Also avoid khuskhus, ajwain, cumin, chili powder, mustard, cinnamon and any fried food.
