How to make South Indian Chutney Powder

Here is a recipe for making delicious South Indian Chutney powder.  You can eat this with Idli, Dosa, Vada and rice or chapathi.

Things You'll Need

  • Chana dal 1cup
  • Urd dal 1 cup
  • Cumin 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Asafetida ½ tsp
  • Jaggery 1” cube
  • Tamarind 1 small lemon size
  • Red chilies 12-16
  • Desiccated coconut ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 2 tbsp

Steps

Dry roast chana dal, urd dal, cumin, tamarind, red chilies and coconut separately.

Grind with salt and jaggery to a medium coarse powder.

Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds and asafetida

Add the mixture and take off from fire. Mix thoroughly and store in a bottle .

Tips

  • To make the flavor last longer store in a refrigerator
  • Add ghee or oil to the chutney powder when eating to enhance the taste
