How to make andhra style- Miriyala Charu (Pepper Rasam)

Miriyala Charu is a very tasy dish that goes with rice. It can be also taken as soup with idli or vada. It is very good for digestion. Pepper rasam is given even to sick people.

Things You'll Need

  1. Tuar dal                              - 1 tbsp
  2. Black pepper                        - 8
  3. Tamarind                             - 1
  4. lemon sized ball Jaggery        - 1 cm cube
  5. Cumin seeds                         - ½ tsp
  6. Garlic pods                            - 2
  7. Salt & turmeric                       - to taste
  8. Oil                                        - 2 tsp
  9. Coriander seeds                     - 2 tsp
  10. Mustard & asafetida                - for tempering
  11. Red chilies                             - 2
  12. Curry leaves                           - 1 tsp
  13. Coriander leaves                     - 1 tsp

Steps

1

soak tamarind. rind tuar dal, black pepper, cumin,coriander seeds to a coarse powder.

heat oil in a vessel, add

  • mustard
  • cumin seeds
  • red chilies
  • curry leaves
  • asafetida

Then add tamarind pulp with enough water.mix the rasam powder, salt, turmeric and jaggery.

sprinkle chopped coriander and serve hot with rice, or idli or vada.

Tips

1. You can also add tomato pure if preferred.
