How to Lose weight

Most of the articles would talk about losing weight in 2 or 3 weeks... I personally tried some of them the but fact is that if you want to lose weight and get into shape workout with proper diet is the most effective way. Keep in mind that you need motivation and perseverance, it won't happen overnight.

Steps

First find out your BMI(Body Mass Index).

  • Underweight = <18.5
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

There are several websites where you can calculate this number

eg. BMI

Find out how much weight you need to lose to fall into the Normal Weight category. I assume you are a healthy individual with a few extra pounds, capable of moderate exercise.

Losing weight basically depends upon balancing the amount of calorie you take in per day compared to amount you burn . If you get more calories than you use, you gain weight. If you use more calories than you get, you lose weight. So identify the calorie intake per day and make necessary changes. Try to avoid any kind of fried food. If you really crave for fried food take it in the afternoon, so that you have enough activity left in the day to burn calories.Do not take any form of FAT after 6.00 pm. If possible take fruits like watermelon as dinner, with some form of protien and fiber with it. Also drink lots of water.

Join a gym and try to do regular exercise. You shouldn't starve yourself and you shouldn't spend hours at the gym. But atl east try to burn what you normally gain from your regular diet. With proper diet and exercise you start burning more calories than you take in.

Most important: Need to have patience with weight loss as it is not an overnight process. It takes time to burn all the extra weight gained over a period of time, and also dont lose hope.

Never ever try to take any kind medication for weight loss with out prescription.

Self control is another important factor as well. Often time we tell ourselves that we will do this and we start for a few days, and then we get tired and go back to our old habits. It is important that we make a plan and we stick by it.

I don't know what the effect is in India, but out west Obesity and Overweight is a major thing and lots of people do a lot of crazy things to lose weight "overnight" . The major thing to remember is that extra weight gained did not occur overnight, thus it cannot be lost over night as well.

One success story is that of a person who made a timetable to lose 60 pounds in 12weeks i.e 5pounds per week. This was realistic and through a lot of self motivation this was achieved. We need to take control of our minds
