Curry leaves were originated in India and it is a frequently used in all Indian homes. It is commonly used in all Indian food recipes for flavor. Most of the people don’t know the medicinal use of the plant. It helps for good digestion, helps to prevent hair loss, Hair growth, etc. Also rich in iron content.
Growing curry leaves in home is very easy. The plant is more available in the nurseries, gardens. An average cost would be Rs. 25 only. Curry leaves grow in any type of cultivation soil. The more fertile land supports high growth of the curry leaves.
It will take nearly one year to two years for a curry leaf plant to grow as a small tree.
In our garden we can plant the sapling and more care to be given initially. Water to be poured carefully and proper support can be given by planting a stick near to the sapling. Tie the sapling with the stick looser and careful. It will prevent from lying in the ground and acts as a support. The saplings planted in the ground will grow as small tree. The roots will spread to the nearby areas and new plants will grow from the same root. The dry fruits of the curry leaves plant will look like small grapes. The dry fruits and seed will also facilitate for new plants near the area.
Nowadays most of us were staying in the apartments and Flats. We can also grow such plants easily in the portico or in the terrace. The sapling should be planted in the flower pot. Adding the manure/ dry cow dung with the soil helps in the fast growth of the plant. The curry leaf plant in the pots will grow upto a height of 4 feet. The larger pots will have maximum 5 feet height. Don’t forget to keep the pot in sunlight. Pour water once a day.
The burned ashes from the cow dung helps from insects and it won’t affect the leaves. Plucking the leaves weekly twice will facilitate for new fresh leaves and growth of the plant.
If the trees have excess growth we can also cut few branches for its strength. These leaves can be used by drying in the shady places. Using the coconut oil with dry curry leaves will facilitate hair growth and tones the hair colour.
Curry leaves is really a cost-effective and wonderful medicinal plant!
