How to go green to avoid Global warming

Global warming is undoubtedly one of the biggest problems, we earthlings are facing today .Soaring mercury levels ,changing weather cycles, absurd natural calamities, depleting natural resources- earth is sending out signals.

Youngsters are willing to compromise on a whole lot of ‘luxuries’ to ensure the betterment of the exhausted, used and abused planet and make it a better place to live in for the future generations.

Go’ Green conscious’ -choose and adopt any or all of the environmentally significant things from ‘The Earth Sastra” and thus stave off the effects of environmental damage in the next few decades. Stop contributing to the resource strip teasing of the planet, avoid wastage and be healthier. ACT AND ACT NOW!

Steps

Avoid junk snail mail: Signing up for bank statements, invitations, advertisement letters etc are literal waste of paper. Avoiding these saves us from CO2 and conserves trees and water. Opt for SMS messages and online statements.

Opting for eco friendly bags avoids a health hazard (plastic bags) both for humans and animals and a lot of junk,

Consider doing the following point to make your home green friendly

  • Taking shorter showers conserves water and electricity.
  • Replace standard light bulbs with Compact Fluorescent bulbs.
  • Keeping the filters in the A/C clean reduces energy consumption up to 5%.
  • Paint your home a light color if you live in warm climate and vise versa. Use latex paint rather than oil for less harmful fumes.
  • Regular defrosting  of your frig saves electricity.
  • Heating ducts are to be cleaned regularly
  • Invest in solar heating and lighting. (though expensive they turn out to be economical in the long run)
  • Open your windows to let fresh air in thus saving electricity on fans.
  • Keep your doors (not the main one)and windows to let in sunlight to save electricity
  • Use khus khus or bamboo curtains for windows during summer using air conditioners only during hottest hours in April and May, thus consuming less electricity.

Having a garden (if you have space) or indoor plants in flats add color and clears pollutions.

Use biodegradable , environment friendly goods instead of synthetic products.

Try to consume foods from organic farms for health reasons

Use the public transport or car pool,to save fuel and avoid smoke pollution.

Inflating your tyres at the right time saves on fuel consumption and also reduces wear of rubber tyres , thus saving on replacement often. it ensures a 9% saving of fuel.

Avoid using chemicals or mosquito coils  inside the house.

Tips

  • Give your voice to organizations working against felling of trees and encroaching gardens.
  • Consider rain water harvesting pits which replenish your bore wells.
  • Solid waste management is to be encouraged.
  • Use incense sticks, neem / eucalyptus oil or camphor instead of pesticides and mosquito repellants.

Caution

  • If you are young global warming is going to have its effect on you the decades to come. So probe ways to avoid it.
  • Even if you are middle aged or elderly you can find and implement more ways to avoid global warming and enviromental damage, to handover a cleaner and safer earth to the coming generations.
