Article written by Mehru Roshan, a Naturopath.
Highlights:

  • Fat cells are a common genetic disorder
  • Metabolism can be corrected
  • Fasting is life threatening

In our previous discussion, we learnt, fast and slow metabolism are the main reasons why? certain people are lean in spite of eating all the time and
others fat, even though they eat little. This article focuses on identifying this difference as a defeciency. We will learn how to fill this gap and address the needs of our body more appropriately, using  simple steps.

So, we understand that, 'Metabolism' refers to the innumerable chemical reactions that occur inside our body that allow the normal functioning of the body  The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the energy/ calories our body burns just sitting around. Every individual has different BMR; we also understand that we can not control the Metabolism, as our BMR reduces with age, but we can make it work in our favour by adding slight changes in our food habits and physical activities.

I am writing this article in short points, keeping it easy to memorize. So, lets kick start

Steps

1

Exercise regularly, this will improvise the metabolic rate and keeps the weight in control. There are two types of exercises you can do cardiovascular and weight training. While cardiovascular shows immediate results by melting the fat instantly, simple weight training will build lean muscle and muscles feed on energy even after two hours of exercising.

2

Never miss your breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day.  Our body metabolism slows down when we sleep as we are resting and will wake up only when we have our breakfast. Ideally, start you day with a big jug of water followed by small quantity of highly nutritious food.

3

Researches show that certain chemical compounds are more effective in speeding up the metabolism, so use them wisely. ‘ Green Tea is believed to have miraculous effect. It is suggested that two cups of green tea a day will pick enough metabolism to burn twice the amount of calories, when combined with other factors. 'Caffeine' found in coffee also seems to help similarly.

4

Eating at regular intervals of the day is a life saviour. You must by now already know why so, as we discussed this elaborately with my example in our previous articles ‘How to loose weight naturally?’ that was followed by further explanation in 'Why some people don't put on weight, no matter what they eat?'

5

Drink plenty of Water through out the day, it will not only help in the ways discussed in my article ' How to control the urge to Eat?' but, will also keep the metabolism to flow at a equal rate. Not allowing it to drastically slow down immediately

6

Now, to the most important point.... Do not starve anytime. Skipping meals is no way useful to your body, there is no proof that it helps you loose weight instead, scientists through out the globe say you will put on weight if you are cutting calories or are deliberately missing meals.

7

In general, make sure you have sufficient intake of Food that is

  1. High in fibre such as whole grains, beans, vegetables and fruits, because they are high in carbohydrates.
  2. Protein rich food such as fish, poultry, lean meats, soy, tofu will help you build muscle mass.
  3. Olive oil, Canola Oil, avocado and nuts have essential oils that our body requires to grease up and function smoothly.

Tips

Points to remember:

  1. There are chances of inheriting a ' Slow Metabolism' in genes nevertheless with the above steps you can improvise the condition.
  2. Males have a faster metabolism in general, huge body and a high percentage of a lean muscle is the reason. However I believe this scenario is fast changing and the difference between male and female bodies are soon collapsing as , both indulge in common activities now.
  3. Crash dieting is a killer; it instantly slows your metabolism.
  4. Regular exercising helps build muscle mass. Muscles unlike fat cells use a higher amount of energy.
  5. Metabolism and Weight are directly related if you have higher BMI which means you need lots of calories to function through out the day but, you eat insufficient amount of energy your weight falls steep and your body will gradually slow down. On the other hand, if you have a lower BMI and you consume a lot of energy, this will result in weight gain. So, in either case it is important to maintain equilibrium, we have discussed the importance of excercising very elaborately in our Rule 2: Dont store Fat.

I hope you find this article useful enough to start improvising your food havits. Remember, you are what you eat .

Crash dieting is a killer!!!

Hi,
I totally agree with ill effects of crash dieting. In fact i realised it the hard way. I tried skippping breakfast and eat very less for lunch in the hope of loosing weight. But As starve more and more the temptation to stuff yourself with food grows. By the time in evening when you go home, you don't have any work to distract you. SO I could not control. I ended up eating more than what i skipped.

Also you get other health issues. The best way to loose weight is gradually. I like you steps. very informational.

cheers
Sai
