How to counter the Jet lag

There is a joke going around and very rightly that a jet lag is nature’s way of making you look like your passport photo.
About 94% of flyers experience jet lag in some form or the other
Jet lag includes symptoms like fatigue, swollen limbs, loss of sleep, disorientation, headaches, bowl irregularity, dehydration and lightheadedness.
Jet lag can even impede your physical and metal performance for a few days after you have flown. This  bane of air traveling is infamous for ruining holidays and throwing people’s plans out of gear.

To alleviate the effects of jet lag make sure that you have all your plans in order before you fly.

  • Stress, excitement or even a hangover can make flying a nightmare
  • Get a good night’s sleep before your flight as an uncomfortable seat or co-passengers can thwart your plans to catch up with your sleep in the flight.
  • Carrying a warm shawl, ear plugs or a neck pillow can keep you comfortable.
  • Get plenty of exercise in the days prior to your departure.
  • Some airlines show some exercises during the flight- follow them

The dry air in the aircraft which will be uncomfortable to bear for people living in humid conditions. The dryness causes headaches, dries up the skin, nasal and throat membranes. To combat this, avoid beverages, juices, and alcohol. Drink plenty of water, before and during the flight.
Resist from overeating. Up to 50% of International travelers develop stomach disorders while in flight.

Immobility can cause blood clots, which can travel to the heart or the brain causing a heart attack or stroke.
Lack of activity and blood circulation can cause a condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). To avert this, stretch your limbs, walk up and down the aisle as frequently as possible.

Remove your shoes while sitting.  Walk around during the transit.Take a shower if possible, which would freshen you, tone your muscles and improve your blood circulation before the flight or during the transit.

Tips

Try to adjust to the time at destination as soon as possible. Other wise you would be sleepy when you are supposed to be at a meeting.
