Net Run Rate has been used in cricket series like World cup, T20 World cup, Indian Premier League and other tournaments. Its a method to decide which team will enter the next round of the tounaments in case of tie with points. It similar to goal difference in football. Like goals for and goals against, run rate is also calculated for and against and their result is the net run rate.

Things You'll Need

Paper and pen.

Steps

1

Note the total runs scored by a team in a match. Don't see the wickets.

2

Find the overs played by the team in the match. If they have played all overs in ODI or T20 count it as 50 or 20 overs. In case of all-out also, take 20 or 50 overs.

3

Divide the total runs scored by the overs. The result is the run rate of the team.

4

Similarly, find the run rate of team it played against.

5

Now find the difference of run rates of both team. For Team A, Run Rate = Run Rate of A - Run rate of B. And simalar for B. In case of win, its positive and in case of loss - negative.

6

To calculate Net Run Rate of a team, find the average run rates. The net run rate is sum of run rates in every match divided by total matches played.

Caution

Read Step 2 carefully.
