How to behave when invited to a party
Some of us are not aware of the party etiquette. We cut a sorry figure in the elite company.
Steps
Thank the host for inviting you and let them know whether you will be able to attend or not. Apologize if not attending but thank all the same
Try to be on time
You have another guest with you. Call the host to enquire whether you can bring the guest along.
Take a small gift according to the taste of the host, like a book, a potted plant, flowers, chocolates a small bottle of perfume etc.
If you are going to a party with children and the host also has children Take a small game as gift so that all the children can have fun
If it is a farewell party, do take a parting gift and make a small speech.
Your host has some problem with the food or some other arrangements- offer to help.
Take a small helping of the item you do not like, when offered to you, and leave it aside
request for a change of plate if any item that is served is not to your liking or you are allergic to it.
Switch off your mobile or tell the person who called that your would talk later. Take leave to go out and talk if the call is urgent.
Tips
- A bouquet for the hostess is the best bet.
- Invite the hosts to dinner at your place in reciprocation. If that is not possible,thank them for the party.
- Call and thank again for the lovely time you had.
Caution
- Don’t make an issue of it if something you dislike is served in your plate.
- Don’t start arguing with other guests during a heated discussion, thus causing embarrassment to the host. Just beg to differ and move.
- Do not take your guests to the party without intimating your host.
- Do not talk loudly on the mobile causing disturbance to others.
