Vaastu is the science of living (vaas) in harmony with the basic five elements and nature. Like the Chinese Feng Shui, a home with a good Vaastu is supposed to bring prosperity and good health to the residents. Keeping the Vaastu of a house in mind is especially important if you want to enhance the resale value of your new home. Follow these simple steps to evaluate the Vaastu of a home you are looking to buy or rent.

Things You'll Need

  1. Magnetic Compass
  2. House plan (with North indicated)

Steps

1

Main door must be in the North, East or North East.

2

Kitchen must be in the South East of the residence.

3

Master Bedroom must be in the South West.

4

Guest room or children’s bedroom to the North West.

5

Puja area in the North East corner of the residence. If not, in the NE corner of any room, never under a staircase.

6

Bath rooms can be in West, South or North West.

Tips

  • Do not have pictures of wild animals, war or crime.
  • Flowing water, running horses, flying birds or Gods and Goddesses are recommended.
  • Do not grow cactus or thorny plants in the house
  • Keep the house always clean to allow positive energy to move across.
  • It is good to live in a house facing East or North.
  • Even with open balconies or windows towards East and North are ok

Caution

  • While the trend of Vastu has become popular more recently it has not been proven in any way.
  • Living in a Vastu perfect house may not guarantee a hassle free life if our destiny wishes it otherwise.
  • Our deeds also rule our lives.
