How to make Bitter gourd curry(kerela curry)

Bitter gourd, though not every body’s favorite, is a health vegetable recommended for curing ulcers,liver problems and Diabetis. You will eat a stuffed karela like Mirchi bajji once you develop a taste for it.

Things You'll Need

  1. Tender karela            - 1.2 kg
  2. Chana dal                 - 1 cup
  3. Oil                           - 1 cup
  4. Red chilies                - 6-8
  5. Onions                     - 2
  6. Garlic pods               - 4
  7. Ginger                     - 1” piece
  8. Sour butter milk       - 1 cup
  9. Salt and turmeric      - as required

Steps

soak chana dal in water for 1 hour and grind to a paste.

grind chopped onion, red chilies, ginger, garlic, salt and turmeric for masala and add to the ground chana paste.

scrape the bitter gourds make + shaped slits and soak in buttermilk with salt and turmeric, for one hour

wash the karelas and stuff  with masala

heat 1 cup oil in a pan and fry the bitter gourds, a few at a time till they turn deep brown.
